Ancients referred to Moonstone as "the pebbles of the moon, " and was said to warn of impending danger when held skyward during a full moon. In the 19th century Moonstones were popular for engagement rings. Moonstone may also be described as having a glow like a winter moon. Good quality Moonstone emit a white or bluish silver haze around the stone. Multicolored Rainbow Moonstones entered the marketplace more recently. Rainbow Moonstones shimmer in a play of light similar to opalescence. A milky looking stone that can exhibit a pleasing display of color.
