Malachite, Rhodochrosite and Sterling Silver Pendant, 49.4 x 2.554mm. This is a one of a kind (ooak) art piece. I personally hand cut the Malachite and Rhodochroite cabochons, then hand forged the metalwork to create an original design. A good friend suggested I use this combination, I'm glad I did. I love the striking contrast.
Rhodochrosite was once called the Inca Rose because Incas were thought to have mined it centuries ago. May be transparent, translucent or opaque. Colored by manganese in shades of pink from pale salmon to bright watermelon. May be textured with lacy bands of white, and pieces cut from stalactites often have concentric rings or eyes. A portrait in pink.
Large quantities of malachite had been mined in the Urals, Russia, but is not being mined there at present. It is found worldwide including in the Democratic Republic of Congo; Gabon; Zambia; Tsumeb, Namibia; Mexico; Broken Hill, New South Wales; Lyon, France; Timna Valley, Israel; and the Southwestern United States, most notably in Arizona. Occurs as a secondary mineral in copper deposits. Usually forms concentric bands of light green to a rich dark green. An opaque stone with lovely pigment.
